If you’re new to the world of NBA Top Shot, allow me to give you a quick and dirty rundown of how this works. Basically, people buy moments, these moments can be a dunk, 2-pointer, 3-pointer, etc. Now here is where it gets interesting, there are events called Challenges in which, requirements are stated and people need to submit the requirements to win prizes; AKA more NFT moments - which in turn you could sell for profit. You may be thinking, “okay, but how do I buy these moments?”. Glad you asked, by using the Marketplace function. This handy -no relation to Facebook - mechanic allows users to search using a wide range of criteria (player/moment/series). As an example, a flash challenge asked for top 5 rebounders of the weekend. After some heavy math, I learned who were the top 5. I owned 1 of them. If I was so inclined, I could have searched the marketplace for the remaining 4 - I didn’t however because I had work and that sucks. Now that we are familiar with how NBA Top Shot works, here are a few players we should look for.
1. Tyrese Haliburton
2. Saddiq Bey
3. Precious Achiuwa
4. Tyrese Maxey
5. Payton Pritchard
Try and grab their rookie cards (avoid 600000+ commons if possible), I promise you’ll make some profit flipping these. One question I get is, “But Justen, when is a good time to buy?”. Glad you asked the person who didn’t actually ask; we’ve all heard the idiom “buy low, sell high” - same applies here. Buy a player when they are injured or in a slump. Some notable players which are broken are:
1. Lou Williams
2. James Harden
3. Damian Lillard
4. Gordon Hayward
5. Jamal Murray
6. John Wall
7. Norman Powell
8. Kawhi Leonard
9. Paul George
10. Zion Williamson
BONUS: Bradley Beal “But Justen, LeBron James is out. Why isn’t he on the list?” Good question, annoying person. The reason why LBJ is off the list is because he is too damn expensive. If you can grab him, do it; but he’s The King for a reason. In conclusion, buy what you feel comfortable with spending. Yes, holo are fun and pretty to look at, however, it won’t help you lose weight. Depending on what your goal is, you will approach this differently. I personally enjoy the challenges, so my plan is to scoop cheap commons of players who are the leader in their respective class (rebounding, 3-points etc). Not to say I'll have every card I need - some challenges require specific branding of a card - but I will at least have a decent set to begin with. Hope you enjoyed this!
