The CFL season is 60% complete and the standings are starting to become solidified in a beautiful way.
Week 10 was intense; full of close matches and upsets that would make any betting fan lose their mind (or at least sweat a little). The current standing is as follows: In the East, we have the Toronto Argonauts sitting comfortably at the top. Holding a record of 6 wins and 3 losses and on a 3 win streak heater, the Argo’s have a total of 12 points. While the Montreal Alouettes and Hamilton Tiger-Cats are fighting for a second-place position with a total of 8 points (The Alouettes have a game in hand on the Tiger-Cats). The Alouettes are coming off of a close match with the Ottawa Redblacks - too close for most Montreal fans. Ottawa took the lead early, but Montreal fought back to take the victory. Unfortunately in the process, Montreal’s quarterback, Vernon Adams Jr. suffered an injury that will keep him sidelined for at least 6 weeks. Their backup, Matthew Shiltz, was subbed on and help keep the Alouettes playoff dreams alive. The Tiger-Cats and the Argo’s had a dropdown slobber knocker at Tim Horton’s field. The Tiger-Cats took a commanding lead early on, dominating possession and the run-game. However, in the 4th quarter Argo’s quarterback, Mcleod Bethel-Thompson, threw for over 300+ yards and leading the Argo’s to that beautiful 50-yard field goal kick. That kick gave the Argo’s the point they needed to complete the comeback, 24-23.
Moving on to the West. The Winnipeg Bluebombers are living large at the top of the table with a nearly flawless record of 8-1. The Grey Cup champions have amassed 16 points and are on a 6 game win streak - they are a lock for the playoffs. Sitting in second though, are the Saskatchewan Roughriders. What was once a dominant team is now standing on shaky legs. Resting on a 2 game losing streak the Roughriders are barely ahead of the BC Lions (who mercifully is also on a 2 game losing streak). Early in the night, the Edmonton Elks played host the Bluebombers. The Bombers demolished the Elks 30-3, there was no mercy to be found. The Bombers key duo of Collaros and Harris got it done again. Collaros threw for 207 yards while Harris got 2 touchdowns and 150 yards. The Elks were scrambling trying to generate some offence but to no avail. The combined strengths of bother quarterbacks, Trevor Harris and Taylor Cornelius, were not enough to bring the Elks close to victory. James Wilder Jr. Only managed to get 43 yards the whole game. On to the final game of the night, Calgary Stampeders against the Roughriders. As mentioned earlier the Roughriders are sitting in second place and were thought to be a lock for the win, however, they were not. Calgary game out early scoring 10 points in the first keeping the Roughriders to only 3 points. But, come the second quarter, the script flipped. Saskatchewan came out hot and heavy dropping 10 points on Calgary, while Calgary only scored 3 themselves - tie game now folks. More of the same was to come in the 3rd with both teams only getting 3 points. Finally, in the 4th quarter, Calgary manage to squeak the win out with 6 points, keeping the Roughriders to only 3 points again. This was a close game, and super fun to watch. Both quarterbacks only managed 1 touchdown each. This was defense vs defense. Those two teams meet again in week 12, and both fanbases are eager to watch round 2.
